Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Junior was born January 15, 1929. Martin graduated from a segregated school at the age of fifteen. He came from a long line of pastors and later became one himself. In 1955, he became a leader of the first great Negro nonviolent demonstration, the bus boycott started by Rosa Parks, which lasted 382 days. During these days of boycott, King was arrested about twenty times, his home was bombed, and he was put in danger, but that did not convince him to turn to violence. Martin Luther King is well known for his “I have a Dream” speech which he delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Momorial. At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Martin Luther King Junior was an inspirational man who had strong beliefs on what the world should be like. He fought for civil rights and felt that every one had the right to be treated equal. He followed in the footsteps of Rosa Parks, who helped begin this movement by not giving up her seat to a white person on the bus. Martin Luther King Junior took over the boycott and it lead to the Supreme Court ruling that it was unconstitutional for buses to be segregated. Unfortunately, King was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis. His opinions were strong and he helped the world come together and for that, we celebrate him in the month on February. He proves that one person can really effect change.
